Amara was introduced to belly dancing in 1999 and was immediately enthralled by the music and movements. Since then she has pursued her ongoing career as a performer and instructor of this ancient and beautiful art form. Celebrated as a passionate and engaging performer, Amara believes an innate love for Arabic music is fundamental to a great performance and fully absorbs herself in the music and culture. In her dance training she has been inspired by both national and international teachers, most notably Yasmina Ramzy, Raqia Hassan, Dalyla Rami, Amoura, Hadia, and Khaled Mahmoud. Amara has spent the last two years travelling across Europe and the UK, teaching and performing for numerous audiences in a variety of venues, from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, to Viennese nightclubs, and to music festivals in Ireland. In 2003 she organized Glasgow’s first ever Orient House , a night of Middle Eastern music and dance, which was featured in The Scotsman, The Herald, and BBC radio. Now based in Toronto, she is proud to have had the opportunity to perform with such innovative troupes as Arabesque Dance Company, Las Gatas, and the Rhythm of the Nile Dance Company. She currently performs regularly as a soloist.
